Teenagers Rescued from Nightclub in Gran Canaria
According to those affected, they were crammed into an unventilated attic to prevent detection while authorities carried out a raid at the venue.
The National Police reported on Tuesday that the investigation is still ongoing regarding at least 27 minors found confined and overcrowded inside a nightclub in Maspalomas, located in the south of Gran Canaria, during the early hours of 27 August.
Throughout the week, the police have been interviewing the individuals involved to ascertain potential charges against both the owner and the staff of the venue for the alleged detention of the minors.
Details of the Incident
As reported by Canarias7, the young people were taken by nightclub staff to an attic without any ventilation to avoid being discovered during a police raid. The operation, led by the Foreign Brigade, aimed to identify uncontracted workers, undocumented foreigners, and the presence of minors in entertainment venues.
One of the minors managed to contact her father, a member of the police force, stating, “Dad, I’m scared. They put us in a room so we wouldn’t be seen.” Following this call, officers were able to locate the room and rescue the 27 young people, providing them with water and immediate assistance.
Canarias7 noted that “the officials found the 27 teenagers crammed into an unventilated attic, watched over by five employees who had ordered them to remain silent and turn off their mobile phones to avoid detection.”
