The Garachico Town Council has decided to close the natural pools of El Caletón due to high levels of the faecal bacteria E. coli.
This decision was made following the results of routine samples taken this Monday, which showed values above the permitted limits.
The local council reports that a second sample has already been collected for further analysis and emphasises that, after conducting the appropriate checks on the municipal sewage system, no discharge of wastewater has occurred.
The council apologises to users of this area of the northern coast for any inconvenience caused by the closure.
