Concerns Over Police Reinforcements on Fuerteventura

For the left-wing nationalist group, “it is a complete deception for the residents of Fuerteventura that the police reinforcements which arrived in June have already left the island through the back door. Despite the latest data published just a few days ago, Fuerteventura continues to top the crime rates and cases of criminality from the last few quarters.” NC criticises the police reinforcements as a ‘summer mirage’ and claims the island is once again without security.

According to the nationalists, “both the central government, along with its representative, and the Canary Islands government, with its Councillor for the Presidency, who pompously announced increased attention, resources, and support for the island, have once again left the residents and the professionals trying to alleviate the climate of insecurity unprotected. This is against the backdrop of a population that is increasingly overwhelmed and rising tourist numbers.”

Island Councillor Sonia Álamo of Nueva Canarias expresses disappointment that “both administrations continue to ignore the calls from the island’s population. The problems of insecurity and the lack of proper police staffing and resources cannot be solved with visits and empty promises; they require concrete actions. The current climate of insecurity is escalating, and quick fixes are an act of irresponsibility.”

The island Councillor has announced plans to send a letter to the government representative and will also bring the demand for a resolution of this issue back to the Plenary session, “to firmly state that Nueva Canarias will not endorse empty rhetoric or announcements that amount to nothing.”
