The Cabildo of Fuerteventura and the Government of the Canary Islands have signed a new collaboration agreement aimed at promoting the activities of the Fuerteventura Technology Park, which is a key strategic pillar for the scientific, economic, and social development of the island.

The signing of the agreement involved the participation of the Island President, Lola García, the Minister for Universities, Science, Innovation, and Culture of the Government of the Canary Islands, Migdalia Machín, and the Executive Managing Director of the Technological Institute of the Canary Islands (ITC), Guayarmina Elisa Peña. Also present were the Cabildo’s Minister of Innovation, Rayco de León, the Park Manager, Eduardo Pereira, and the Director of the Canary Agency for Research, Innovation, and Information Society, Javier Franco.

Strengthening Inter-institutional Collaboration

This agreement consolidates inter-institutional collaboration that began in 2017 and seeks new funding methods to continue developing strategic actions within the Park, enhancing its regional and international profile, and generating direct benefits for local citizens.

Investment and Future Vision

“The Fuerteventura Technology Park continues to establish itself as an international reference, driving innovative solutions to improve quality of life, attract investment, and diversify the island’s economy,” stated the Cabildo President, Lola García, who also announced a nearly one million euro investment in the island’s 2025 budget for its maintenance and development.

On her part, Minister Migdalia Machín emphasised that the agreement will strengthen the role of the centre within the network of scientific infrastructures in the Canary Islands and its integration into smart growth strategies. “We want the Technology Park to be a meeting point for businesses, research, and training, capable of attracting talent and high value-added projects,” she affirmed.

Similarly, the Cabildo’s Minister of Innovation, Rayco de León, highlighted the need to continue investing in this innovation ecosystem and to bring its opportunities closer to the public, so that Fuerteventura can advance towards a model of development based on knowledge, sustainability, and technological competitiveness.
