This week marked the end of the Oasis Camp 2025, a unique children’s camp initiative in the national educational landscape. The camp is designed to support and awaken the emotional, cognitive, and social potential of its attendees. Over the course of two weeks, activities focused on emotional development, creativity, environmental awareness, and well-being have been held at Oasis Wildlife Fuerteventura. All these activities catered to children aged 4 to 12 years old.
Nearly a hundred young individuals have coexisted within the facilities of Oasis Wildlife alongside more than 250 species of animals and plants. Throughout their stay, the children have enjoyed tailored experiences designed by experts in conservation and nature protection. They also engaged in emotional care, sports, and art, transforming the camp into a life-changing adventure.
The participants have taken part in animal handling activities with species such as lemurs, porcupines, raptors, llamas, and giraffes. In addition, they have been involved in environmental enrichment for both large and small mammals like hippopotamuses, crocodiles, and turtles. They conducted clinical analyses on otters and macaws, prepared diets and ice treats for sea lions and elephants, traced animal chips from the African savannah, and participated in the medical training of elephants.
Furthermore, they created seedlings and engaged in planting through the generation of cuttings, and produced organic compost in the spaces of Compost Majorero and Garden Center Fuerteventura. They learned to sculpt with clay, make wooden propellers, and create recycled jewellery. All of this was done alongside Canarian artisans, and they undertook mindfulness exercises and sports training. Specific processes for highly sensitive individuals were also developed by specialists in the field.
Individualised attention with experts in various subjects
Participants at Oasis Camp had access to a specialised technical team and personalised attention, with one supervisor for every four children. The educators are qualified experts in various fields such as animal care, botany, art, and emotional support, who designed a tailor-made programme for the campers.
“Oasis Camp is not just a summer camp; it is a transformative experience for the children who participate. We believe in an education that goes beyond academics, integrating emotional well-being, respect for the environment, and personal discovery. Here, each child learns to coexist with nature, to know themselves, and to develop values that will accompany them for life. For our team, it’s a source of pride to see how, year after year, this space leaves a mark on families and future generations,” stated Guacimara Cabrera, manager of Oasis Wildlife Fuerteventura and creator of the camp.
María González, a doctor in education and expert in high sensitivity, was responsible for the emotional well-being area, while Soraya Cabrera, Conservation Director of Oasis Wildlife, supervised experiences with fauna and flora. The sports section was led by Néstor Rodríguez, who holds a degree in Physical Activity and Sport Sciences, and Manuel Andrade, a specialist in facilitation and creativity, designed the artistic and scenic proposals.
An educational model made accessible through the Chekipa Foundation
Since its inception thirteen years ago, Oasis Camp has established itself as an innovative educational proposal that breaks away from the traditional camp model.
This accessible educational model is made possible through the collaboration of the Chekipa Foundation, whose involvement allows for a reduction in the cost of this programme without compromising quality. Thanks to this partnership, a significant number of families can access an experience that would typically only be available to a select few, with the same guarantees of attention, safety, and support.

Over two weeks, nearly a hundred children have lived and slept at the Oasis Wildlife facilities, engaging in continuous learning. But the learning has not been just for them; it’s a constant exchange. Their curiosity inspires us, and their energy reminds us that we are working towards a better world.”
