Rising Stars OM Domínguez and Liane Showcase Canary Island Music at Starlite Occident

Both artists emerge as leading figures in the new island scene following their performances at Sonora 2025, which allowed each to perform before 3,000 attendees over two separate nights.

A Vibrant Showcase of Canary Island Music

This week, Canary Island music resonated powerfully at Starlite Occident in Marbella, led by OM Domínguez and Liane—two artists emerging as key representatives of the new island scene. Both took to this international stage after their participation in Sonora 2025, providing them the unique opportunity to perform before sizeable crowds.

Under the clear skies of the Nagüeles quarry, the Canary showcase began on Tuesday, 12 August, with Liane, who secured second place in the latest Sonora edition. Her performance traversed soundscapes where urban roots merged with nuances of soul and other genres. Remarkably, she relied on the honesty of her lyrics and a minimalist stage presence, complemented by a talented band, to elicit enthusiastic applause from the audience for each of her pieces.

OM Domínguez Takes Centre Stage

Two nights later, the spotlight shone on OM Domínguez, the winner of Sonora 2025, who delivered an expansive live show marked by a blend of musical styles. Accompanied by the powerful Village Band—including Derque Martín on timple, Armando Drive on guitar, Charlie Ayala on bass, Marcos Pulido on trumpet, Kilian Barrera on drums, and Sara Bolaños on backing vocals—his energetic ensemble embraced influences from roots to hip-hop, funk, rock, pop, and disco. This diverse musical mosaic grants them a distinct identity. “We don’t seek prefabricated formulas; what we do is share our truth,” highlights the singer, encapsulating the essence of their proposal.

The audience’s response was enthusiastic, with applause recognising the genuine character of a project that has risen from the Canary Islands in just a few years and continues to grow its musical presence. Their victory at Sonora, regarded as the “festival of festivals” in the archipelago, opens doors not only at Starlite Occident but also to the Festival Boreal in Tenerife, where OM Domínguez & The Village Band are set to perform on Friday, 19 September, and, notably, at the Festival Sonora for a live show at Plaza de Santa Ana in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria on Saturday, 18 October.

Highlighting Canary Island Diversity

The dual Canary debut in Marbella served to showcase the rich diversity of emerging music from the islands on a single stage across two different nights. OM Domínguez and Liane represent distinct musical paths, yet both share a common goal of placing Canary Island creativity on a broader map. At Starlite, their voices resonated to remind us that the music from the Canary Islands has much to contribute to the current scene.
