Over 2,500 People Enjoy Sports Events in Tías This Summer

During the summer holidays, sporting events held in Tías attracted over 2,500 participants. This figure encompasses activities at Playa Grande and the municipal sports centre, tournaments across various locations within the municipality, special events, and sports camps in the Tías and Puerto del Carmen fields.

The Mayor of Tías, José Juan Cruz, expressed his satisfaction with the community’s response, stating that the activities and sports tests were “so diverse that they allowed everyone to find their space.”

Sports Councillor Ismael Cruz added that families and young people “have taken advantage of a wide and healthy offering that promotes the values of sport and strengthens our community.” Cruz highlighted that sport serves as an educational tool, aligning with the municipal project Tías Juega Limpio.

Approximately 300 children participated in various sports camps, around 350 individuals attended organised activities both on the beach and in Tías, and more than 2,500 people enjoyed the different sports events featured in the summer programme.

This summer witnessed the “Lanzarote Training Football” camp (30 June – 27 July) at the Manuel Arrocha García fields in Puerto del Carmen and Francisco Bermúdez Hernández, known as “Pancho,” in Tías. The goalkeeper camps “Be Goalkeepers Ernesto García” (1–4 July) and the Barça Academy (14–18 July) were also held at the latter venue.

At the municipal sports centre, the summer camp of Psicomotricidad C.B. Puerto del Carmen ran from 2 July to 6 September, while the handball technical camp C.B. Puerto del Carmen was held at the IES Puerto del Carmen pavilion and Playa Grande (7 July – 29 August).

Additionally, the Magec Tías camp (23 June – 29 August) took place at the municipal pavilion and IES Tías, while the C.F. Sporting Tías football technical camp ran from 4 to 29 August at the Tías field.

Organised activities such as Pilates, maintenance, and water exercises are being conducted at Playa Grande (during July, August, and September) and continue at the sports centre, garnering positive feedback from participants.

The calendar featured highlighted events such as the IV Challenger Nacional de Pádel (23–29 June) at Hyde Park Lane, the Memorial Domingo Robayna futsal tournament (28 July – 1 August) at the municipal pavilion, the Beach Volleyball Tournament (1–3 August) at Playa Grande, the XI Barranco del Quíquere Popular Race (2 August) in La Tiñosa, the I La Tiñosa Swimming Crossing (2 August) at El Poril, and the VII Memorial Mike Wheeler (2 August) at the IES Puerto del Carmen.

Furthermore, the II Football Tournament “Fiestas de Ntra. Sra. del Carmen” (14–16 August) and the Goalkeeper Battle (17 August) took place at the Manuel Arrocha García field, the Beach Football Tournament (15–17 August) at Playa Grande, The Fitness Race Tías (23–24 August) at the Tías field, the II Charity Tournament “Fight Against Cancer” (19–31 August) at Hyde Park Lane, and the Freediving Ocean Cup (6–7 September) in Puerto del Carmen.
