A 58-year-old man with a criminal record has been arrested in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, suspected of committing a violent robbery against a 74-year-old woman on 25th August.

According to the National Police, the incident occurred as the victim was entering her home. The suspect followed her in and violently confronted her to snatch her handbag. This caused the woman to lose her balance and fall backwards onto the ground.

Despite being on the ground, the suspect continued to pull on the handbag, dragging her several metres until a nearby neighbour intervened, prompting the assailant to flee the scene.

As a result of the attack, the victim sustained several injuries, which forced her to remain bedridden for several days.

The entrance to the building where the robbery took place was equipped with security cameras. Footage from these cameras was provided to the National Police, who, following investigative work and a photographic identification by a witness, managed to identify the suspect.

On 9th September, police located him in a public area and proceeded with the arrest. Additionally, at the time of his detention, he was found in possession of several items believed to have been stolen during the incident.
