Arrests Made Following Violent Robbery in Las Palmas
Two Young Men Detained
National Police agents have arrested two men aged 19 and 20 in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria as the alleged perpetrators of a violent robbery in a neighbourhood of the capital, according to a statement released by the force.
Details of the Incident
The incident occurred in the early hours of 4 September when two women were approached by the two assailants. After sitting beside them on a bench, one of the suspects brandished a kitchen knife and, in a “threatening manner”, demanded that they hand over all their belongings.
The victims, feeling “terrified”, surrendered their bags, after which the assailants fled the scene on foot.
Police Response
“Immediately, several police units were dispatched to the location,” the statement reveals. Officers gathered physical descriptions of the attackers and conducted searches in the area.
Minutes later, through the geolocation of a stolen mobile phone, the agents managed to track them down to a street in the capital, where they were located and arrested.
Evidence Collected
Additionally, the National Police noted that during a security search of the suspects, they recovered a transport voucher in the name of one of the victims, as well as a red coat that matched the description provided.
The arrested individuals were taken to police facilities, where the appropriate report was filed, and they were subsequently placed at the disposal of the competent judicial authority.
