Local Police agents have participated in several special operations this week to ‘clean out’ the parks and public spaces in the capital of Lanzarote
The area known as Parque de los Pinos is under constant monitoring by Local Police in response to alerts from residents
The Local Police in Arrecife continues to strengthen its presence in sensitive areas of the city to combat drug sales and consumption in public spaces, particularly where adolescents gather.
The city’s mayor, Yonathan de León, who directly oversees the Local Police, has prioritised the security and prevention efforts aimed at preventing these parks and public spaces from being used by ‘certain dealers’ for drug sales and to curb substance abuse among the youth.
Local officers monitor specific vulnerable areas in Arrecife where residents have reported issues, alongside police investigations involving covert vehicles and plainclothes officers.
Throughout this week, as the new academic year approaches, several Local Police patrols have conducted preventive checks in different sensitive areas of Arrecife, including the well-known Parque Los Pinos in the Titerroy district.
The Local Police, as confirmed by the mayor, will continue with these preventive operations and many more direct interventions following alerts from residents about specific locations.
In collaboration with the National Police, the Local Police of Arrecife has achieved a significant reduction in criminal offences during the first quarter of 2025, particularly those related to drug trafficking. These notable results in Arrecife, which enhance the city’s safety, contrast with an increase in similar crimes in other municipalities on Lanzarote, according to official statistics from the Ministry of Interior released this week.
In recent months, the Local Police of Arrecife successfully identified a ‘dealer’ using police drones, conducting their preventive operations with unmarked vehicles and plainclothes officers.
Yonathan de León has emphasised that the Local Police will remain persistent with further deployments supported by new equipment and technological resources acquired in recent months, positioning them as one of the most well-equipped and advanced police forces in the Canary Islands.
