The Local Police of Santa Cruz de Tenerife seized a total of 975 counterfeit items from well-known brands during their routine presence at the city’s Sunday market. This action was taken after two stalls were identified selling products irregularly.

At the first stall, officers confiscated 947 items, including t-shirts, trousers, caps, and underwear, corresponding to imitations of brands such as Calvin Klein, Vans, Scalpers, Hugo Boss, Nike, and Adidas, among others. At the second stall, an additional 28 items were seized, bringing the total to 975 confiscated items.

According to the authorities, the counterfeit products are of notable quality, making them difficult for consumers to identify. The Local Police is currently analysing the seized materials and will prepare the necessary reports for judicial action.

The Councillor for Citizen Security of Santa Cruz City Council, Gladis de León, stated that “our priority is to ensure that commerce in Santa Cruz operates within the law and with all guarantees for citizens, as the sale of counterfeits not only harms brands and local businesses but also negatively affects consumers who believe they are purchasing quality products.” She also assured that “we will continue to intensify surveillance at the market and other sales points to prevent these illegal practices from becoming established in the city.”

Community Involvement

De León also emphasised the importance of community collaboration, noting that “it is vital for citizens to be aware that buying counterfeit products fuels the underground economy and jeopardises consumer safety. We encourage locals and visitors to report such activities and always choose legal commerce.”

The Local Police reminded the public that buying and selling counterfeit products constitutes a violation of industrial property regulations and can lead to criminal liability. Furthermore, consumers who purchase these items expose themselves to low-quality products or those that lack health guarantees, especially regarding personal items like underwear.

Commitment to Security

The City Council of Santa Cruz and The Local Police remain committed to ensuring public safety and combating the sale of counterfeit products, reinforcing their presence at markets and public spaces. These actions are part of ongoing surveillance and control campaigns aimed at promoting safe, fair, and lawful commerce.
