The organisation has proposed the establishment of a Youth Advisory Council to the Cabildo, representing young people from all municipalities of Lanzarote and La Graciosa. The aim is to directly communicate their concerns on key issues such as housing, employment, mobility, education, and the environment. “We want the youth to be part of the island’s planning. Lanzarote cannot design its future without considering young people, as we are the ones who will live it,” emphasised Ana Hernández, the insular president of NNGG.
Call for a Dedicated Youth Space
Additionally, Nuevas Generaciones reiterated the long-standing demand for the creation of an Insular Youth Space, a venue where young people can access information, guidance, training activities, and resources to enable their full development and active participation in society.
“The Youth Council would be a crucial step for our voices to reach the institutions. However, we also need a physical space that reflects our commitment to youth. We will continue to advocate for this space because the young people of Lanzarote and La Graciosa deserve to be heard and taken into account,” Hernández added.
Concrete Proposals for Change
Nuevas Generaciones emphasises that these proposals are not merely symbolic gestures but concrete tools for institutions to listen, plan, and act with a generational vision, integrating the perspective of youth into all public policies.
