PSOE Calls for Revision of Nursing Position Requirements in Tinajo’s Schools

The PSOE of Lanzarote has called upon the Management of Health Services to review and amend the terms of the announcement published on 20th August for the provision of a nursing position in the educational sector within the municipality of Tinajo.

Concerns Over Selection Criteria

The socialists deem it unacceptable that the announcement stipulates the sole requirement as possessing a Master’s degree in School Health, thus excluding officially recognised nursing specialities by the Ministry of Health, such as Paediatric Nursing and Family and Community Nursing, closely related to healthcare in educational settings.

Tailored Requirements Criticised

The Island Secretary for Health of the PSOE of Lanzarote, Sabina Vizcaíno Sicilia, warned that this exclusion “gives the impression that a tailored suit has been made, prioritising a very specific requirement instead of recognising the official training of highly qualified professionals who have passed a rigorous healthcare specialisation process.” She insisted that “specialised healthcare training cannot be disregarded when discussing the guarantee of quality care in schools. The announcement must be modified to be fair, transparent, and legally compliant.”

Equality and Human Resources at Stake

Moreover, Vizcaíno emphasised that the situation could violate fundamental principles of equality, merit, and capability in access to public employment, besides suggesting an inefficient use of human resources by excluding professionals with advanced competencies in school care, health promotion, management of chronic childhood conditions, or emergency care. “We demand that officially recognised nursing specialities be included as a requirement or preferred merit, and that the interview be removed, as the way the announcement is currently drafted raises more doubts than certainties regarding equal opportunities for accessing the position,” she asserted.

Criticism of Rush in Process

The PSOE also criticises the haste with which the process was announced, in the middle of August, allowing only five working days for the submission of applications, which hinders participation and reduces transparency.

Call for Qualified Professionals

With this demand, the socialists stress that the quality of the School Nursing Programme in Tinajo can only be guaranteed if it employs professionals with the highest qualifications and experience, ensuring equal opportunities and avoiding announcements that generate doubts regarding their transparency and legality.
