Socialists Demand Change to School Health Programme Recruitment Criteria
The socialists deem it unacceptable that the recruitment call stipulates a Master’s degree in School Health as the sole requirement, excluding officially recognised nursing specialisations by the Ministry of Health, such as Paediatric Nursing and Family and Community Nursing, which are directly linked to healthcare in schools.
Concerns Over Exclusion
Sabina Vizcaíno Sicilia, the insular secretary of health for the PSOE in Lanzarote, warned that this exclusion “gives the impression that a tailored suit has been created, prioritising a very specific requirement over acknowledging the official training of highly qualified professionals who have undergone a rigorous healthcare specialisation process”. She emphasised that “we cannot undervalue specialised healthcare training while discussing the need to ensure quality care in schools. The recruitment call must be amended to be fair, transparent, and legally compliant”.
Equality Principles at Risk
Vizcaíno also stressed that the situation could infringe upon fundamental principles of equality, merit, and capability in access to public employment. Furthermore, it represents an inefficient use of human resources by excluding professionals with advanced competencies in school care, health promotion, management of childhood chronic conditions, or emergency care. “We demand that officially recognised nursing specialisations be included as a requirement or preferred merit and that the interview process be removed, as the way the call is currently drafted raises more questions than assurances regarding equal opportunities for access to the position,” she stated.
Criticism of the Process Timing
The PSOE also criticises the haste with which the recruitment process has been called, occurring in the midst of August with only five working days for application submissions, which complicates participation and reduces transparency.
Ensuring Quality in Nursing Programme
Through this demand, the socialists emphasise that the quality of the School Nursing Programme in Tinajo can only be assured with professionals possessing the highest qualifications and experience, guaranteeing equal opportunities and avoiding calls that raise doubts about their transparency and legality.
