PSOE de Tinajo Condemns Alcalde’s Remarks on Housing Aggressors in Hotels During Gender Violence Incidents

The PSOE of Tinajo has categorically condemned the unacceptable statements made by the mayor, who during the latest municipal council meeting publicly acknowledged that in cases of domestic violence, he orders the accommodation of aggressors in hotels to prevent their arrest. In his own words: “When there is a conflict involving domestic violence, the police call me and say: ‘Suso, we have a problem. Either we need to find a place for this man to stay or we have to arrest him.’ There are children involved. I tell them: ‘No problem, as we’ve done before, send them to a hotel. Some people stay for one night, others for four.’”

Public Admission of Institutional Negligence

These statements are not a slip of the tongue; they represent a public confession of institutional negligence in addressing male violence. They reveal dangerously improvised and deeply insensitive management that jeopardises women’s safety. “What the mayor has described is not a solution; it is barbaric. Accommodating an aggressor in a hotel at public expense, while minimising the suffering of victims, is a display of institutional complicity with male violence,” declared councillor Begoña Hernández.

Demands for Clarity and Accountability

Furthermore, the PSOE of Tinajo has demanded explanations regarding the use of public funds for hotel stays that are recorded in the extrajudicial recognition of credit, without any transparency or legal justification. “Who authorised those invoices? What protocol was followed? Where are the technical reports that support that decision? The public deserves answers, not dangerous improvisations,” added Begoña.

Calls for Urgent Review of Protocols

The socialist group is calling for an urgent review of municipal protocols regarding cases of domestic violence, as well as clear accountability on the use of public resources. “Male violence cannot be countered with spontaneous ideas or favours. It requires responsibility, well-managed resources, and a real commitment. And that is what is currently lacking in this council.”
