The PSOE of Lanzarote has claimed that the CEO of the Tourist Centres, Ángel Vázquez, has increased his salary by €25,000 from one year to the next, rising from €69,785.37 in 2023 to €94,742.48 in 2024.
Outrage Over Salary Hike
The socialist councillor at the Cabildo, Benjamín Perdomo, described this increase as “scandalous and unjustifiable,” stressing that “there is no justification for this, especially on an island facing a crisis regarding water, housing, and basic services.”
“In just one year, Vázquez, with the complicity of Oswaldo Betancort, has decided to pocket nearly €25,000 more while families are still waiting for decent housing, while water supply cuts continue, and while public services are in chaos. This is an insult to the citizens of Lanzarote and a clear indication of the priorities of Coalición Canaria and the Popular Party: first their salaries, and then, if there’s anything left, the island,” Perdomo stated.
A Pattern of Excessive Spending
Perdomo reminds us that this increase is not an isolated incident; rather, it adds to a management model characterised by excessive spending on trips, events, and institutional propaganda, which does not contribute to improving citizens’ lives.
“The Tourist Centres should be a driving force for employment, sustainability, and culture. What we are witnessing is quite the opposite: a patronage system serving CC and PP, where salaries are inflated, expenses soar, and public duties are neglected,” concluded Perdomo.
