Puerto de la Cruz is gearing up for one of its most anticipated celebrations with a new edition of the Summer Carnival, scheduled for 19th to 21st September. This year, the tourist city is stepping ahead of the International Winter Carnival with a proposal full of colour, joy, flavour, and freedom, under the slogan: Viva Mexico!
The Costa Martiánez Tourist Complex and Playa Jardín will be the main venues for a programme that combines gala shows, festivals, concerts, and parades, reinforcing the Carnival’s status as a key event in the festive and tourist calendar of Canarias.
Over three days, Puerto de la Cruz will be filled with music, culture, and diversity through a vibrant programme featuring orchestras, DJs, drag artists, batucadas, comparsas, and shows for all audiences.
Events
The epicentre of the carnival will be the Costa Martiánez Tourist Complex, which will host the Transgressive Gala on Friday, directed by local singer, choreographer, and artistic director Wycho Torres, featuring renowned drag artists from the archipelago.
Saturday will kick off with the Diverse Festival, hosted by the well-known drag artist Marcela Kaufmann and Iván Padrón, followed by The Great Carnival Party, uniting performers Ni un pelo de Tonto, Boys Machine, and DJ Ubay Hernández on stage.
On Sunday, 21st September, the Summer Carnival will conclude with a massive event at Playa Jardín, commencing at 12:00 with the Grand Parranda and Coso, featuring groups from the Puerto de la Cruz, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, and La Palma, along with comparsas and choreographic groups from the municipality.
Music will continue until 20:00, featuring performances by DJs Luis de León, Alex Navarro, Laurentini, Dassierl, guitarist Gabo Siverio, and the Swing Latino Orchestra, providing a vibrant finale to a celebration that marks the end of summer with the spirit of Carnival.
Identity as a Tourist Destination
“Puerto de la Cruz once again demonstrates that it is a city that is open, lively, and committed to its traditions, but also to the values of freedom, diversity, and inclusion,” stated the city’s mayor, Leopoldo Afonso, who emphasized that this Summer Carnival “is a celebration that projects our identity as a tourist destination and as a society.”
Meanwhile, City Councillor for Festivals, Luis Javier González, assured that “the Summer Carnival has become a consolidated event showcasing the best local and Canary Island talent, while also highlighting the LGTBI+ community as a fundamental part of our municipality’s carnival spirit.” He added that “it is a festival to enjoy without labels, with respect, and with all the joy that closing the summer deserves.”
The City Council, through its Festivals Department, has designed a programme that enhances the tourist projection of the municipality and provides residents and visitors the chance to experience a festive occasion in a privileged setting. Puerto de la Cruz invites all citizens and visitors to join the Summer Carnival 2025: an explosion of music, colour, and pride to close the summer with the best smiles, with all performances being free until capacity is reached.
