The Ayuntamiento of Puerto del Rosario has welcomed the new tender announced by the Government of the Canary Islands, through the Instituto Canario de la Vivienda (ICAVI). This initiative is for the construction of 75 publicly promoted social housing units in the municipality. Puerto del Rosario will add 75 new social housing units

This project, which was initially left vacant in its first call, has now been revived with an investment of €12,825,473.96. This amount will be funded by Next Generation European funds, the autonomous community of the Canary Islands, and the Cabildo of Fuerteventura, alongside land contributions from the local council.

Project Details

The project is divided into two lots. One is located on the Don Quijote site, situated between the streets of Don Quijote, Dulcinea, and Sorolla, where 47 homes with parking spaces will be constructed. The other is at the Bernegal site, located between the streets of Bernegal, El Alpende, and Tabajoste, which will feature 28 homes and their respective parking facilities.

Commitment from Local Officials

David de Vera, the mayor of Puerto del Rosario, emphasised that “this new tender not only demonstrates a firm commitment to address one of the greatest demands from our residents but also reflects the commitment of the administrations to ensure that these works proceed this time. These 75 homes represent a significant step towards the well-being and inclusion of those who need it most.”

Housing Councillor Toñi Fdez. Aragón further highlighted that “with this tender, we are placing Puerto del Rosario back at the centre of public housing policies in the Canary Islands. We are talking about unprecedented investment in the capital. Our commitment is to continue expanding the public housing stock because we know that guaranteeing this right is fundamental to building a city with greater equality and social cohesion. This project, along with those already underway in Rosa Vila and others being assessed on Cisneros Street, reinforces this roadmap.”

Ongoing Housing Initiatives

In addition to these 75 homes, the Ayuntamiento reminds residents that other social housing projects are in progress in the municipality, including 24 units planned for Rosa Vila. A technical assessment of the buildability on Cisneros Street is also ongoing, which could lead to the construction of an additional 140 homes (66 in Aulaga III and 74 in Aulaga IV), currently in the project drafting phase.

Interested companies in participating in the tender can submit their bids until 18 September 2025 at 17:00 via the Public Sector Procurement Platform.
