The parliamentary group VOX in the Canary Islands has released a statement lamenting the “new bad news for Spaniards” as Ryanair cancels all its flights to Tenerife Norte and reduces its capacity in the Canary Islands by 10% for the winter season. This measure, which represents a loss of 400,000 seats, is part of the airline’s plan to cut its capacity by 41% in Spain, citing airport fees imposed by Aena.

Criticism of Government Actions

VOX describes this situation as a “new blow to our island territories” and attributes it to the “disastrous management of this government.” The party criticises the Minister of Transport, Óscar Puente, stating that “while he is busy insulting people on social media, a major airline has decided to move 400,000 Canary Island seats to Italy and Morocco.” The parliamentary group warns that this news is “especially serious as it devastates tourism and leaves many Spaniards with fewer alternatives for travel.”

Concerns Over Rail Services

Furthermore, the statement refers to another issue within the national territory, noting that “the Ministry of Development, led by Ábalos, Koldo, and Puente, has destroyed the reliability of our rail system on the mainland with delays and incidents occurring daily.” VOX asserts that, under these circumstances, “Spaniards know when they will depart but not when they will arrive at their destination by train, and now with these misguided decisions, they will have fewer options for travelling across Spain.”

Calling for Accountability

In light of what they describe as “manifest incompetence,” VOX calls for “a return to strictness and common sense, focused on the genuine interests of Spaniards.”
