San Bartolomé Celebrates the Start of Soundproofing Works in Playa Honda
The San Bartolomé Town Council has expressed its satisfaction with the commencement of acoustic insulation works in the homes of Playa Honda. This long-standing demand has come from both the Council and local residents, who have been affected by noise from the César Manrique-Lanzarote Airport.
Soundproofing Works to Improve Quality of Life
For years, residents of Playa Honda have suffered from the impacts of air traffic affecting their daily lives. In response, the Town Council initiated various institutional actions to encourage AENA to implement compensation measures and ensure suitable acoustic insulation in homes close to the airport.
The Council even established an exclusive advisory office to support residents in processing their requests directly with the relevant authority.
Official Statements
The Mayor of San Bartolomé, Isidro Pérez, visited several homes where the works have begun and expressed his satisfaction:
“At last, AENA is responding to a long-standing demand, highlighting the importance of institutional collaboration and community perseverance. This will enable Playa Honda to have suitable acoustic conditions for the daily lives of its residents.”
Additionally, Councillor for Economy and Finance, Victoriano Antonio Rocío, provided official data from the Council:
- 903 homes eligible to apply for soundproofing.
- 632 formal applications submitted.
- 601 homes with a favourable technical report.
- 564 homes with acoustic insulation projects.
- 366 homes with complete documentation in the management office.
- 37 homes with approved financing.
Execution Plan
This summer, AENA began the first interventions in 48 homes, whilst others are in the acceptance phase by homeowners or undergoing technical evaluation. The second phase of works is scheduled for early 2026, ensuring that all families entitled to acoustic insulation have their requests addressed.
Mayor Isidro Pérez emphasises that this is a long and complex process, subject to technical and administrative procedures, but assures that the government team’s priority is to continue working tirelessly with AENA until all homes are soundproofed.
Collaboration and Follow-Up
The San Bartolomé Town Council appreciates the willingness of AENA and maintains ongoing communication to expedite actions, reaffirming its commitment to the well-being of the residents of Playa Honda.
