SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE 17 Aug. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Villa of San Juan de la Rambla celebrates this Sunday, 17 August, the first centenary of the granting of the title of Villa, awarded in 1925 by King Alfonso XIII, as proof of his “royal appreciation for the people of San Juan de la Rambla for the growing development of its agriculture and its constant allegiance to the Monarchy”.

The main event of the commemoration of this anniversary is scheduled for 19:00 hours, in the Rosario Oramas square of San Juan, and will serve as a representation of everything that defines the Villa and how it has evolved over the last hundred years, according to a statement from the Town Hall.

The historical journey will be conducted by the beloved son José Antonio Oramas, and the official chronicler Pedro Ángel Gómez will explain what has been done concerning the centenary celebration to date. Attendees will enjoy particularly significant moments that aim to become a “historic milestone”.

On the other hand, the danced poem ‘San Juan de la Rambla’, extracted from the work ‘Vuelta a la Isla’ by Pedro García Cabrera, will be recited by Loly Armas and danced by the local choreographic group Titanium, along with the premiere of the play “Hace 100 años”, performed by the local groups La Chistera and La Alhóndiga.

However, the highlight of the day will be the grand premiere of the symphonic poem ‘From the Sea to the Summit’, which, dedicated to the centenary, was composed by José Luis Peiró and will be performed by the two local bands together, the A. A. Alcaraván and the A. M. XIX de Marzo.

In terms of interventions, the participation of the President of the Government of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, and the President of the Cabildo of Tenerife, Rosa Dávila, stands out. Together with the ramblero mayor Juan Ramos and the Councillor for Culture Juan Siverio, they will highlight the significance of this date for the region and the rest of the area.

The Town Hall specifies that Their Majesties the Kings hold the Honorary Presidency of the commemorative Committee for the Centenary, which lends this celebration an even more relevant character.

Therefore, they indicate, the House of His Majesty the King, through an official communication sent by the Head of the House, has conveyed the greeting and congratulations of Their Majesties to the entire people of San Juan de la Rambla. Although they will not be able to attend the institutional event due to scheduling reasons, they have deeply appreciated the invitation and expressed their recognition of the municipality on this “historic anniversary”.

The Honorary Committee is comprised of the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, the President of the Canary Government, Fernando Clavijo, the Minister of Culture, Ernest Urtasun, the President of the Canary Parliament, Astrid Pérez, the President of the Cabildo, Rosa Dávila, the President of the FECAM, María Brito, the Rector of the ULL, Francisco Javier García, the Bishop of the Nivariense Diocese, Eloy Alberto Santiago, and the ramblero mayor, Juan Ramos.

The advisory committee, in turn, is composed of the beloved sons José Antonio Oramas and Esteban de León, the local chronicler Pedro Gómez, the teacher José Antonio Falcón, Professor Josefa Dorta, the former director of the Canary Institute of Equality Isabel de Luis, the president of the A. C. Martín Rodríguez Julia Borges, the president of the A. C. Los Alzados Carmen Nieves Luis, the president of the Medianías Cooperative Manuel Reyes, the former president of the A. M. XIX de Marzo María de las Nieves Dorta, the director of the choreographic group Titanium Noemí Díaz, the former Councillors for Culture Iván García and José María Pérez, and the municipal employee Emeterio García.
