The Governing Board of the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Town Council, chaired by Mayor José Manuel Bermúdez, approved on Monday the modification of the fiscal ordinance regulating the Property Tax (IBI).

The update introduces improvements in the management of existing discounts for both large families and homeowners who install solar panels in their residences within the capital.

Main Modifications

Among the key changes is the existing 50% discount for properties equipped with systems that harness thermal or electrical solar energy.

The reform also incorporates ambient energy systems, which will benefit from the same discount, thereby expanding the municipal tax advantages in environmental matters. This measure will enable facilities generating energy from wind, water, or biomass to avail themselves of the discount.

Changes for Large Families

One of the most significant modifications focuses on the IBI for large families. From now on, when renewing the annual large family card, the application must be submitted within one month from the issuance date of the card by the competent authority, ensuring that the discount takes effect in the same financial year as the application.

Mayor José Manuel Bermúdez stated, “With this modification of the ordinance, we aim to improve the management of the IBI, ensuring that all those entitled to the relevant discounts can receive them appropriately and within the legal timescales.”

Officials’ Comments

Meanwhile, the Councillor for Finance, José Alberto Díaz Estébanez, pointed out that “with these changes, which will come into force on 1 January 2026, we are better able to adjust revenue collection and enhance conditions for large families, who will enjoy the discount in the same year, as well as for taxpayers who invest in renewable energy in any of its forms.”

The review of the ordinance will be presented to the Town Council Plenary for approval and will subsequently undergo the relevant public consultation process.
