Nearly 1,400 residents have enjoyed the new Santa Cruz de Tenerife tourist bus during its first days of operation. This was reported by the mayor of the Tenerife capital, José Manuel Bermúdez, who highlighted the positive reception of the service among the local population.
Bermúdez explained that “on the 12th, 13th, 14th, and 17th of August, the tourist bus was free for residents of the Island and will be again during the last two weekends of August, as one of our goals is to continue offering citizens a new way to rediscover the city.”
The mayor added that “the service, provided by City Sightseeing, is a mobility option aligned with our sustainable tourism plans,” emphasising that “this is made possible by the efficiency of the vehicles, which have the ECO environmental label, promoting responsible tourism, generating local employment, and helping to avoid excessive visitor concentration in crowded areas.”
The Executive Councillor of the Development Society, Carmen Pérez, noted that “in these first days of operation, thanks to the tourist buses, we have seen both visitors and residents enjoy the comfort of a privileged view of the most iconic corners of our city.” She added that “this service, with the advantage of being able to hop on and off freely at any of the stops, encourages the dynamism of various points in the city, thus contributing to the development of the local economy.”
Pérez highlighted that the buses will be available free of charge for Tenerife residents tomorrow, on Sunday, and on the 30th and 31st of August, stressing that “this is not a service aimed exclusively at tourists, but rather encourages local residents to discover Santa Cruz in a different way. Therefore, we encourage them to come to the capital and use this transportation for free during the last two weekends of August.”
The official stated that “with this initiative, we aim not only to enrich our tourist offering sustainably but also to strengthen the bond between citizens and their urban environment,” adding that “it is a way of understanding who we are, what Santa Cruz offers, and exploring our history and heritage.”
Meanwhile, the General Director of City Sightseeing España, Isaac Flores, expressed his satisfaction with the public’s response during the first four days of open-access service. “We have come to Santa Cruz with great enthusiasm to contribute to tourism and the local economy, energising the destination, promoting it in the main global industry forums, and creating stable jobs. Seeing that the residents of Tenerife are choosing us to experience the capital with new eyes motivates us to continue on this path,” he asserted.
Flores added that “we encourage residents to take advantage of the four remaining days to enjoy the best views from our bus for free.”
The tourist bus service operates through double-decker vehicles and includes a route with 12 strategically placed stops, including Plaza de España, Palmetum/Parque Marítimo, Tenerife Adán Martín Auditorium, the bus interchange, Avenida Tres de Mayo, Estadio Heliodoro Rodríguez López/Parque Viera y Clavijo, Plaza Los Patos, García Sanabria Park, Military Museum Almeyda, Our Lady of Africa Market, Museum of Nature and Archaeology (MUNA), and the Carnival House.
Tenerife residents can enjoy the tour at no cost by boarding at the City Sightseeing main stop located at Plaza de España, simply by confirming their residency with a DNI.
City Sightseeing Santa Cruz de Tenerife operates Monday to Sunday, with a frequency of approximately 25 minutes, between 09:30 and 19:30 hours. Through the mobile app, users can check the real-time location of the buses, points of interest, and guided tours. An audioguide provides information about the Tenerife capital in 11 languages. Headphones for accessing these recordings are provided free of charge and include a children’s version in 5 different languages.
Outside of the free promotional period for Tenerife residents, the service will maintain its regular operation with standard rates: 20 euros for non-resident adults and 10 euros for youths aged 7 to 16 years, while children aged 0 to 6 years can ride for free.
For Tenerife residents, after the open-access days, they will continue enjoying the tourist route with a special reduced fare of 75%, bringing the cost down to 5 euros for adults and 2.50 euros for youths aged 7 to 16 years.
