Sisismic Activity Detected in Tenerife
SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 23 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) –
Recent Earthquake Events
The National Seismic Network has detected several seismic events since Monday in the northeast ridge of Tenerife, specifically between the valleys of La Orotava and Güímar.
Details of the Seismic Activity
The National Geographic Institute (IGN) reports that approximately 20 seismic events have been recorded so far, with an average depth of 7 kilometres beneath sea level, although the magnitudes are very low—the highest being two.
All the earthquakes have been registered within the municipality of La Orotava, except for one in Los Realejos and two in Arafo. The IGN emphasises that such activity is common in volcanic areas like Tenerife, although this region is newly active compared to the previous swarms located further west.
Ongoing Monitoring
The IGN also states that it is continuing to closely monitor the situation, as it does during any episode of seismic activity in the Canary Islands.
