Sorcery Triumphs at the IX International Regatta Arrecife – Agadir

During this week, the IX International Regatta Arrecife – Agadir took place, organised by the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife in collaboration with the Yacht Club of Agadir, Calero Marinas, and Marina Agadir, featuring a dozen boats. Antonio Luis Hernández’s Sorcery was the first to complete the 224 nautical miles separating Arrecife from Agadir, Morocco, securing victory in this ninth edition.
Commencement of the Regatta
On the morning of last Tuesday, the IX International Regatta Arrecife – Agadir was launched from the bay of Arrecife. The president of the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife, Julio Romero, and the advisor for Physical Activity and Sport of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, Juan Monzón, were responsible for signalling the start of the regatta.
Challenging Conditions
Adverse sailing conditions affected several of the participating vessels, which encountered various issues and could not reach the finish line in Agadir. This edition was one of the toughest due to the state of the sea and wind intensity, emphasising the importance of the pre-race safety inspections that ensured crews were adequately prepared and equipped.
Boats such as Felipeva VI, Martinilla, the Yasta, and Muyay were affected and compelled to withdraw.
Race Outcome
After over 29 hours and 30 minutes of navigation, the Sorcery from the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife, helmed by Antonio Luis Hernández, was the first to arrive at La Ville de Agadir, winning the ninth edition of the International Regatta Arrecife – Agadir. The second place went to Bicho Ruin, skippered by Miguel Lorenzo, with a time of 38 hours and 55 minutes. Papoa, led by Sergio Vicente Acevedo, secured the third position.
Celebration and Activities
Upon arrival, the sailors were welcomed by members of the Yacht Club of Agadir and participated in various activities organised in the locality, including an excursion to the city of Taroudant in the oasis of Tiout and a sardine feast for the sailors. This regatta has once again strengthened the bonds between the cities of Arrecife and Agadir.
Trophy Presentation
The trophy presentation concluded the IX International Regatta Arrecife – Agadir on Saturday night, attended by Julio Romero, the president of the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife, and Ahmed Benouadden, president of the Yacht Club of Agadir. They were joined by Juan Monzón, advisor for Physical Activity and Sport of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, alongside Antonio Cabrera from the Organising Committee and Luis Ley from the Regatta Committee.
