Metrotenerife, the public transport company of the Cabildo de Tenerife, has scheduled a special reinforcement for Line 1 of the tram on Sunday, 14th September, in celebration of the main day of the Fiestas del Cristo de La Laguna.
Line 1 will operate with a frequency of 10 minutes until 20:00 and 7.5 minutes from 20:00 until midnight, when services will conclude.
Additionally, following the fireworks display, three extra units will be deployed to meet demand. Information about these services is available on Metrotenerife’s social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, and X, @tranviatenerife) and on www.metrotenerife.com.
Programme for the Day del Cristo
- 07:00: ringing of bells in the Santa Iglesia Catedral and other temples.
- 10:00: a civic-military procession with the Pendón Real from the Town Hall to the Cathedral, attended by civil, military, and consular authorities.
- 10:45: at the Cathedral Square, reception of the official representation of His Majesty the King; Eucharist and return procession of the revered image of the Santísimo Cristo de La Laguna to its Royal Sanctuary.
- 19:00: Eucharist in the atrium of the Royal Sanctuary and a procession through the main streets of the city.
- 23:00: Fuegos del Risco.
The Day del Cristo
The Day del Cristo is celebrated every 14th September, coinciding with the Exaltation of the Cross, and serves as the central focus of the festive programme in La Laguna for September. Among the traditional events are the civic-military procession of the Pendón Real, the Eucharist at the Cathedral, and the subsequent transfer of the image to the Royal Sanctuary of the Santísimo Cristo de La Laguna, as well as the Fuegos del Risco on the main evening.
