The Town Hall of Granadilla de Abona welcomed the visit of the Councillor for Social Welfare, Equality, Youth, Childhood and Families of the Canary Government, Candelaria Delgado, as part of a working day aimed at strengthening institutional coordination and understanding the specific social needs of the municipality.

The councillor was greeted by the councillor for Social Services, Rubén García Casañas; the councillor for Municipal Services, Marcos Antonio Rodríguez; the councillor for the Elderly, Eudita Mendoza; and the councillor for Health Promotion, Candelaria Chinea.

The activity commenced in the municipal commission room, where a meeting was held to discuss the resources offered by the Canary Government in Granadilla and the priority needs in the social sector.

Following this, the councillor and the councillor for Social Services visited the centre managed by ACUFADE (Association of Caregivers, Family and Friends of People with Dependency, Alzheimer’s and Other Dementias), located in the town centre.

During the visit, the authorities engaged in discussions with users and professionals at the centre, gaining insights into its operations and listening to concerns and suggestions for improving care.

Councillor Candelaria Delgado highlighted the importance of enhancing social resources in the municipality. “Today, we have been able to understand firsthand the main demands of Granadilla de Abona concerning social services, particularly regarding care for the elderly, equality and disability,” she stated.

“The Canary Government aims to collaborate with the town hall to strengthen these resources, promote the creation of new day centres and centres for the elderly, and improve support services for people with disabilities,” she specified.

Meanwhile, Rubén García Casañas, the councillor for Social Services, emphasised the council’s commitment to enhancing social care. “From the Social Services department, we reaffirm our commitment to the community. We are not alone on this journey; we walk hand in hand with the Canary Government,” he stated.

Casañas indicated that “in today’s meeting, we have established work actions aimed at providing a genuine response to the needs of our residents.” He also assured that “in the coming weeks, new social workers will be joining our team, allowing us to strengthen direct care. Moreover, we have committed to improving family reconciliation, creating new support resources, and ensuring better care for our elderly and people with disabilities,” the councillor concluded.
