The President of the PP in Lanzarote and La Graciosa, Astrid Pérez, has announced the presentation of motions at the Cabildo and local councils aimed at supporting those wishing to enter the primary sector, particularly young people, and simplifying the administrative processes that currently resemble a true labyrinth.
Motions to Support Young Entrepreneurs
The motion, which has already been urgently submitted to the Cabildo for debate at the upcoming full council meeting this Friday, proposes the creation of a Single Point of Contact for the Primary Sector. This would serve as a centralised hub for information, advice, and assistance for anyone wishing to start agricultural, livestock, or fishing activities in Lanzarote or La Graciosa.
“Nowadays, any young person wanting to engage in agriculture encounters an insurmountable bureaucratic wall without assistance,” Astrid Pérez stated.
“It’s urgent that institutions align themselves with those who wish to work and invest in the primary sector. We cannot allow bureaucracy to become an obstacle to the future of our agriculture, livestock, or fishing.”
Proposals for Institutional Coordination
In addition to the Single Point of Contact, the PP’s motion includes the necessity to establish an Institutional Coordination Protocol between the Cabildo, local councils, and the Government of the Canary Islands. This protocol aims to clearly sequence administrative steps and reduce duplications.
The establishment of an Insular Programme for Incorporation into the Primary Sector is also proposed, which would provide financial aid, training, and awareness campaigns, especially targeting the youth.
Moreover, the Popular Group urges the regional government to simplify the procedures for accessing productive rural land and registering operations, always maintaining a balance with environmental sustainability and landscape protection.
“Our commitment is clear: to make life easier for those who wish to work the land, engage in livestock, or venture out to fish,” emphasised Astrid Pérez. “Lanzarote cannot continue losing farms, cultivated land, and opportunities for economic diversification due to a non-supportive administration.”
Commitment to Sustainable Development
This initiative will be presented not only at the Cabildo but also in the local councils where the Popular Party holds representation. With this, the PP reiterates its commitment to the sustainable development of the primary sector and the need for all administrations to work in a coordinated manner to ensure generational change and preserve the island’s food sovereignty.
