Teguise Expands Cemetery with New Niches
The Teguise Town Council has received the completed works for the expansion of the Cemetery of Our Lady of the Snows in La Villa, following the construction of 464 new niches. This initiative, included in the cooperative plans of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, involved an investment of €310,000.
Community Need Addressed
The Mayor of Teguise, Olivia Duque, stated that the completion of this project “addresses a real and urgent need of the municipality, and was a clear priority for this governing body from the outset of our term.” She added that “ensuring dignified and appropriate spaces at the most sensitive times for families is not just an administrative obligation, but a demonstration of respect towards our citizens and those who came before us.”
Preserving Community Heritage
Duque further noted that “the cemetery of La Villa de Teguise is part of the historical and emotional heritage of our community, and that is why we have promoted an initiative that not only increases its capacity but also dignifies and improves it.” She also expressed gratitude to the technical staff and all involved departments for their “coordinated and efficient work that has made it possible to deliver this infrastructure within the planned timeframe.”
Enhancing Municipal Services
Meanwhile, the Councillor for Works, Eugenio Robayna, positively evaluated the completion of the project and emphasised that “the work has been carried out with the utmost speed to respond to one of the most urgent demands regarding municipal services.” Robayna highlighted that this expansion “reinforces the funeral capacity of the municipality and improves planning for the medium and long term.”
Commitment to Quality of Life
The Teguise Town Council continues to work on the development of public infrastructure that responds to the real needs of the population, demonstrating a strong commitment to the quality of life, respect, and dignity of all residents.
