Teguise Hosts VIII Edition of History Days Focused on Archaeology and Heritage Conservation

The Teguise Town Council, through its Archive and Heritage Department, announces the eighth edition of the History Days, which this year will be titled “Archaeology: The Excavated Memory.” The events will take place from 9 to 30 October 2025, featuring a programme focused on the role of archaeology as a tool to recover and preserve history.

Schedule and Participation

Sessions will be held in the afternoons. On 9 and 10 October, activities will take place at the Municipal Theatre of Teguise, while on 16, 17, and 30 October, they will move to the Convent of Santo Domingo. This free event is open to the public, with options for both in-person and online attendance.

Registration is now open and can be completed by sending an email to [email protected], including your name, surname, and ID number, as well as your preferred mode of attendance.

Live Streaming and Accessibility

In addition, all lectures will be streamed live on the Teguise TV YouTube channel, aimed at making access available to as many people as possible, both within and outside the municipality.

Commitment to Heritage

Teguise’s Mayor, Olivia Duque, emphasised that these days form part of the council’s commitment to highlighting historical heritage, noting that such initiatives allow for the continuous discovery, sharing, and preservation of the memory unveiled by archaeology, thus contributing to the knowledge and conservation of the past at both local and broader levels.

Moreover, the Councillor for Archive and Heritage, Mar Boronat, indicated that this edition takes a broad approach, covering topics such as the island’s first settlement, the 15th-century European conquest, the history of the Teguise village, and even paleontology. Notably, the renowned anthropologist Juan Luis Arsuaga will give a lecture on the island for the first time.

The eighth edition of the Teguise History Days is supported by the Government of the Canary Islands, through the Directorate General of Culture and Cultural Heritage. The complete programme can be reviewed on the Teguise Archive website: www.archivoteguise.es.

The Teguise Town Council invites all citizens to participate in this new edition, which continues to establish itself as a space for meeting, reflection, and knowledge about local history and its significance within the Canary Islands.
