Teguise Mayor Olivia Duque Welcomes New €€€ Seniors’ Home Project in Tahíche

Mayor of Teguise, Olivia Duque, Celebrates Start of New Elderly Care Home Project in Tahíche

“We are discussing a much-needed facility for the island, especially for our elderly. This care home will not only address a clear generational and social demand but also stands as a firm step towards caring for those who have given so much for us,” Duque highlighted.

The Mayor reminded everyone that she had previously advocated in several council meetings for institutions to look beyond the present needs, as Lanzarote urgently required the construction of a new elderly care home. “The reality is that social demand has been crying out for not just one, but several infrastructures of this nature. This has not happened because, for four years, the Socialist Party was at the helm of the Cabildo and left the project forgotten in a drawer. This neglect has caused real harm to many families who have been waiting too long for a response that should have come earlier,” Duque asserted.

At the same time, the Mayor acknowledged the efforts of current public officials. “This project is also the result of teamwork, and I want to congratulate my colleagues at the Cabildo, because when we combine our efforts, we achieve significant advancements like this,” she added. “Projects like this reaffirm my conviction in the vision that Coalición Canaria has for the island of Lanzarote and La Graciosa.”

Duque also insisted that this project recognises Teguise as an ideal location for the development of insular services. “Teguise is prepared and has the capacity to host projects of this scale. What we now demand is for more funds and resources to be allocated to the municipality, whether from other institutions with greater competencies or through new lines of funding, to continue creating spaces that enhance people’s lives,” the Mayor emphasised.

In this context, she announced that the council is already working on new projects that place people, especially the elderly, at the centre of political action, such as the establishment of a Family Respite Centre in Guatiza. “I will continue to advocate for what Teguise deserves: investment, institutional commitment, and more infrastructures that bolster social well-being,” Duque concluded.
