The Cabildo Opens Applications for Language Immersion Scholarships Until 13 October

The initiative, involving an investment of €3.8 million, will benefit over 300 students

The Cabildo de Tenerife, through its Department of Education, has announced the launch of the Language Immersion Scholarship programme, which will enable 340 students from the island to pursue studies abroad during the 2026/2027/2028 academic years. This was revealed in the Bulletin of the Province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife published today (Wednesday), and the deadline for applications is 13 October.

The President of the Cabildo, Rosa Dávila, highlighted that “no other administration invests as much as we do in language immersion scholarships across Spain. We are a benchmark at a national level in our commitment to the international education of our youth.” She also emphasized that these grants represent a direct investment in the future of young people in Tenerife, as they not only “contribute to improving language skills, but also prepare them to navigate an increasingly globalised environment.”

“Thanks to this unprecedented public funding, we ensure that talented and dedicated students can access international experiences that would otherwise be beyond their reach, removing economic barriers and promoting equality of opportunity,” Dávila remarked.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Education, Efraín Medina, reminded that the island’s scholarship scheme is not limited to these grants but encompasses a wide range of programmes, including early childhood education through to vocational and university training, with particular attention to families facing the greatest challenges in balancing work and educational life.

The Language Immersion programme is aimed at students in Years 10 and 11 of secondary school and includes three types of international stays (annual, term-based, and Dual Baccalaureate) in countries renowned for language teaching such as the United States, Canada, Ireland, and France. The scholarships for the International Dual Baccalaureate, aimed at Year 12 and 13 students, allow for earning dual qualifications (Spanish and either American or Canadian Baccalaureate) over two academic years.

The minimum scholarship amount per student is €8,500, with a maximum of up to €17,500 per student. The application process will remain open until 13 October. In total, the regional authority has allocated €14 million in the 2024/2025 academic year for educational programmes for children and young people on the island.
