The Tenerife Council, through the Department of Roads, continues with the works aimed at enhancing the safety of the pedestrian walkway located on road TF-194, near the University Hospital of the Canary Islands.

The project, awarded to the company Señalizaciones Villar, involves an investment exceeding €96,000 and is expected to be completed by October.

The Roads Councillor, Dámaso Arteaga, who recently visited the site accompanied by the Mobility councillor from the La Laguna Town Hall, recalled that the works were approved urgently due to the “need to replace the existing railings along the pedestrian walkway to prevent possible falling debris onto the tram tracks.”

Service Road Improvements

These works are also linked to those being carried out on the service road at the intersection of TF-5 with the University Hospital of the Canary Islands. The cost of these works amounts to €300,000, with a completion timeline of three months.

In this regard, Dámaso Arteaga highlighted that the aim of the works is to “improve accessibility in the area by connecting the pedestrian ramp located on the edge of TF-5 through the construction of sidewalks, a new bus stop, and stormwater drainage.”

Wider Infrastructure Plans

The announced intervention is part of the Council’s plan for the rehabilitation and improvement of mobility within the island’s road network. Recently, the institution has put out to tender 38 projects designed to enhance safety measures and renew the surfaces of various roads on the island.

The projects include resurfacing, drainage improvements, signage, road markers, and safety barriers. Additionally, they encompass stabilization works for slopes and embankments on roads of island significance. The total values of the contracts exceed €700,000.

Key Signage Renewal

Particularly, the rehabilitation project will focus on renewing key signs such as give way, lane markings, direction arrows, and crossing markings, which currently show significant wear. These signs are essential for guiding and warning drivers, especially at night when limited visibility increases the risk of incidents.

Notable Highway Upgrades

Among the most notable actions is the rehabilitation of the TF-1 motorway, in the stretch connecting Arico, Fasnia, and Güímar, with a budget of €30 million and a length of approximately 24 kilometres.

The improvements will include road resurfacing, the installation of audible paving on the edges, repainting of road signs, and the installation of safety barriers, thereby ensuring efficiency on a route used by more than 50,000 vehicles daily.
