20th Edition of the Fuerteventura and Lanzarote Studies Conference
From 23 to 26 September, the Fuerteventura Palace of Training and Congresses will host the 20th edition of the Studies Conference on Fuerteventura and Lanzarote, an event that has become a benchmark for academic and cultural discourse in the Archipelago. This year, the conference will take place in Puerto del Rosario.
This year’s conference, organised by the Cabildo of Fuerteventura through the Insular General Archive, will bring together specialists who will present 48 research projects covering various fields, including History, Art History, Geography, Language and Literature, and Archaeology.
History and Purpose
The conference series, established in 1984 by the councils of both islands, was created to enhance scientific knowledge about the eastern territories and to address the lack of studies and publications that existed at that time. Since then, the event has been held biennially, alternating between Lanzarote and Fuerteventura as hosts.
Significance of the Event
The insular councillor for Cultural Heritage, Rayco de León, emphasised the importance of this 20th edition, noting that it serves as a platform for the analysis and promotion of the historical and cultural heritage of the two islands. The Studies Conference on Fuerteventura and Lanzarote is poised to make a significant impact this year in Puerto del Rosario.
