30th Edition of the Antigua Rally Kicks Off
The thirtieth edition of the Antigua Rally commenced with a presentation event filled with tributes and nostalgia at the local Casino. Authorities, drivers, and fans gathered for an evening that highlighted the best homage to three decades of history: the collaboration among motor clubs working together on the island. The Antigua Rally celebrates its 30 years with unity, tributes, and excitement.
Honouring Contributions to Motorsport
During the ceremony, Mayor Matías Peña and Sports Councillor Samuel Torres presented an award to the United Clubs of Fuerteventura, recognising their efforts to keep the passion for motorsport alive through various competitions. “The council collaborates as an institution, but it is the clubs that sustain the real organisational effort,” Torres stated.
A Tribute to Victoriano Fránquiz
The event also had a poignant aspect, featuring a posthumous tribute to Victoriano Fránquiz, a key figure in the expansion of motorsport in Fuerteventura. His memory was honoured by family, drivers, and attendees, who celebrated his legacy with a prolonged applause.
Celebrating Individual Achievements
The evening also acknowledged individual achievements. Co-driver Jonathan Hernández, despite his youth, has already accumulated two decades of experience in both off-road and asphalt competitions, even participating in international events. Driver Aníbal Hernández received a surprise ovation as his 30th anniversary as a racer coincides with the rally’s 30-year history, which witnessed his growth on the tracks.
Official Start Date Announced
The Mayor announced that the race will officially begin on 5 September from the central square of Antigua, where a vibrant atmosphere is expected to celebrate this special edition. The President of the Cabildo of Fuerteventura, Lola García, along with representatives from the Canary Islands Automobile Federation, also attended the event, supporting an occasion that once again brings the municipality to the forefront of motorsport enthusiasm in the archipelago.
