The Cabildo sponsors the activities of the Coastal Action Group of Tenerife with 100,000 euros
The Councillor for the Primary Sector, Valentín González, explains that “this line of aid is aimed at developing actions for the revitalisation and promotion of the fishing sector in Tenerife”
The Cabildo of Tenerife allocates 100,000 euros to the Coastal Action Group (GAC Tenerife) for the development of actions related to the revitalisation of the coastline and the fishing sector of the island.
The Councillor for the Primary Sector, Valentín González, explains that this annual grant is intended “to contribute to the development of the main actions and objectives of the GAC Tenerife, which include, among other things, the execution of the Participatory Local Development Strategy for the island’s fishing area, as well as collaboration with the General Directorate of Fisheries of the Government of the Canary Islands in the promotion and management of grants for Priority 3 of the European Maritime, Fisheries and Aquaculture Fund (EMFAF), managed by GAC Tenerife”.
Regarding the objectives of this line of aid, González emphasises that “we also aim to contribute to the implementation of activities for the revitalisation and promotion of the fishing sector and the local fishing and aquaculture products, including the promotion of the fishing cultural heritage and the conservation of the sea and the coast.”
Another of the main actions to be developed under this grant focuses on “the maintenance and management of the Interpretation Centre for the Sea and Fishing”, an exhibition space located in Punta del Hidalgo, La Laguna.
The Coastal Action Group of Tenerife is a non-profit association composed of economic (private sector), social (fishermen’s guilds and associations), and public (public administrations) agents related to the coast and the fishing and aquaculture sector of Tenerife, presided over by the Councillor for the Primary Sector of the Cabildo, Valentín González.
One of the main objectives of this group is the management of the participatory local development axis for the fishing area of Tenerife.
