Nearly fifty agents from the Guardia Civil have travelled to Lanzarote to ensure the safety of the President of the Government of Spain, Pedro Sánchez, and former socialist president José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, who typically spends his summer holidays in the bungalows of Famara, during their stay on the island.

According to La Voz, to guarantee the security of both, the General Directorate of the Guardia Civil has deployed around 50 agents, mostly from the basic scale and some corporals from group C1 to the island of volcanoes, in addition to a captain and a sergeant from the Benemérita.

The Spanish leader travelled to Lanzarote on Saturday, August 2, and is expected to be staying at La Mareta, a property owned by National Heritage, which has previously hosted others during their tenure, until August 23.

At the moment, it has not been made public whether the President of the Generalitat of Catalonia, Salvador Illa, former Minister of Health (2020-2021), and the Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande Marlaska, have finally arrived on the island along with President Sánchez or if they will do so in the coming weeks.
