The Civil Guard of Fuerteventura has arrested the alleged perpetrator of a series of thefts committed between December 2024 and August 2025 in the Corralejo area.
He is accused of twelve crimes against property and the socioeconomic order, primarily committed in shops and hotel complexes in the area.
According to reports, the suspect always used the same method: he entered different shops and, taking advantage of a moment of inattention, concealed products in his clothing — an outfit he wore at every theft — to leave without paying. The stolen items were mainly perfumes, alcoholic beverages, and tobacco.
The same individual is said to have forced entry into two hotel complexes, accessing guests’ rooms at night to steal mobile phones and computer equipment.
The investigation included thorough inspections of the affected establishments and the analysis of security camera footage. Thanks to this work, the officers were able to identify the alleged perpetrator by his appearance captured in the videos.
The operation culminated on 5 August, when he was arrested after a discreet surveillance operation involving plainclothes officers and uniformed patrols. The arrest took place as he exited a local shop, where he had just stolen several items of clothing.
With this arrest, the Civil Guard has concluded the first phase of the investigation, bringing an end to a wave of thefts in the area. However, a second phase continues, aimed at locating the stolen items and tracking their possible sale to third parties. Investigators are now focusing their efforts on mobile and computer equipment, which can be traced through their digital footprint.
The Civil Guard emphasises that such actions are part of the National Safe Trade and Tourism Plan, aimed at enhancing security in areas with high visitor numbers.
The proceedings and the detainee have already been made available to the Court of Duty in Puerto del Rosario.
