Gran Canaria Sports Institute Achieves Top Marks in Transparency Index
The Insular Sports Institute (IID) of the Cabildo of Gran Canaria has received a perfect score of 10 out of 10 in the Canary Islands Transparency Index (ITCanarias). This annual evaluation, conducted by the Commissioner for Transparency of the Canary Islands, measures public entities’ compliance with publicity and information access obligations for the 2023/2024 financial year.
### Significant Improvement in Ratings
This score represents a significant improvement compared to the previous period (2022/2023), where the institution received a score of 5.82 points.
### A Commitment to Openness
Aridany Romero, the Sports Councillor of the Cabildo of Gran Canaria, indicated that this recognition “is the result of the dedication of a team that has worked tirelessly to ensure that the Insular Sports Institute becomes an open, accessible, and approachable organisation, in line with the Cabildo of Gran Canaria’s commitment to strengthening societal trust in its institutions.”
### Enhancements in Information Accessibility
The head of the autonomous sports organisation emphasised that “the improvements implemented regarding information accessibility, particularly with the new website, have brought data closer to the public and reinforced trust in the institution.”
### Evaluative Successes
In this evaluation, the IID achieved a score of 2.98 out of 3.00 for the Web Support Compliance Indicator, attaining maximum points in the publication structure and search functionality categories. Additionally, it scored 6.64 out of 7.00 on the Active Publicity Indicator and 0.70 out of 1.00 on the Voluntary Transparency Indicator, further solidifying the entity’s commitment to accountability.
Romero highlighted that “in this way, the institution positions itself among the most transparent entities in the Canary Islands, demonstrating that public management in insular sports can and must lead the way in good governance practices.”
