The Cabildo and the Island Hunting Council have agreed on the hunting seasons, conditions, methods, and limitations for this activity in Fuerteventura, which include a series of improvements for the current season. Island Councillor Carlos Rodríguez explained, “It is important to take into account the contributions of the Island Federation and the hunting associations from throughout the Island. Despite being an advisory body, consensus has been reached in a cordial atmosphere where the contributions of these groups have been evaluated, resulting in a series of innovations that benefit hunting activities on the Island.”
As this has been a good year due to rainfall, the island councillor stated that the hunting periods have been extended, along with the number of dogs and ferrets allowed. Additionally, the hours for hunting partridge have been increased until midday (3:00 PM).
Furthermore, the Hunting Department has established new training fields, such as the one at the La Capellanía hunting area in the municipality of La Oliva, to allow for prior training of the dogs. The fields will remain open once the hunting season concludes.
All these innovations have been communicated to the Regional Hunting Council, which will publish the order regulating hunting practices in the Canary Islands. This order will be published in the Official Bulletin of the Canary Islands before the end of June. The information will also be available on the website cabildofuer.es.
For the first time, the hunting season will begin and end on the same dates across the province of Las Palmas, fulfilling a long-standing request from hunters.
