The Municipality of La Oliva Becomes an International Highlight with the Launch of New Cupra Model

The automotive brand Cupra has chosen the sacred Majorera mountain to name its new model, ‘Tindaya’. The vehicle was unveiled at the IAA Mobility 2025 in Munich, making La Oliva an international focal point and showcasing the uniqueness of its pure natural landscape.

Shifting the Image of the Island

This initiative transcends the notion of an island solely linked to ‘sun and beach’ tourism, aiming to promote other points of interest in Fuerteventura, particularly in La Oliva, such as the sacred mountain Tindaya. This concept aligns with the efforts of the Tourism and Environment Department, led by David Fajardo, since the beginning of the current legislative term.

Promoting Sustainable Tourism

The goal is to enhance a tourism model that is conscious of its surroundings and offers various facets of the municipality beyond the coast. Sporting activities occur throughout the year, and the traditions and customs of the Majorero people are highlighted through sites such as the Castillo del Tostón and, more recently, the Aljibe del Veneno and Redonda. Furthermore, natural landscapes, including the Tindaya mountain itself, emphasise a new paradigm that enhances Fuerteventura’s image as a multifaceted tourist destination.

Local Leaders Express Their Pride

The Mayor of La Oliva, Isaí Blanco, highlighted the significance of the presentation at the IAA Mobility 2025: “This is a unique opportunity to showcase our municipality. We are incredibly proud that the new Cupra bears the name of Tindaya, our most special mountain. This reinforces what the automotive brand has recognised: Fuerteventura is so much more than ‘sun and beach’. This perspective has been our focus since the start of the legislative term, and we will continue to promote it.”

“The aim is simply to showcase the other qualities of La Oliva, including sports, tourist interests, and of course, our landscapes that extend beyond our well-known beaches,” the mayor explained.

A Major Step Forward

David Fajardo, the Councillor for Tourism and Environment, stated: “The new Cupra ‘Tindaya’ bestows La Oliva with unparalleled international recognition. The brand’s choice of the sacred mountain showcases its authenticity and aligns with our goal of enhancing the municipality—not solely for our kilometres of golden beaches but for many other qualities of La Oliva, including sports, Majorero traditions, and our commitment to preserving our environment.”

Cupra places La Oliva at the heart of this event, bringing Tindaya and our sacred mountain into the international spotlight with this new vehicle model.
