The Pozo Negro Farm to Host the Inaugural Antigua Horse Racing Festival

First Horse Racing Event in Fuerteventura

For the first time in Fuerteventura, Cuadras Islas Fuerteventura, with the support of the Canarian Equestrian Federation, is organising the I Horse Race for the Fiestas de Antigua. This event is included in the Inter-Island Championship for the 2025/26 season, in honour of Juan Sánchez.

Supporting this inaugural horse race in Fuerteventura is a commitment to this sporting discipline and highlights the importance of sustaining clubs and equestrian centres, stated the Mayor of Antigua and Councillor for Agriculture, Livestock, and Fisheries, Matías Peña García.

In terms of sports, noted the Councillor for the area, Samuel Torres Mesa, the organisational efforts of Cuadras Islas Fuerteventura, alongside the support from the Canarian Federation, will place the island and the Municipality of Antigua on the insular circuit. If successful, it may lead to participation in upcoming regional horse racing seasons.

This exciting equestrian spectacle is being supported by the Cabildo of Fuerteventura, the Municipality of Antigua, the Government of the Canary Islands, the Cabildo of Gran Canaria, and sponsored by Howden Insurance.

The I Horse Race for the Fiestas de Antigua takes place this Saturday at the Experimental Farm in Pozo Negro, starting at 11:00 hours. This thrilling event will see riders and horses competing in various categories over distances ranging from 1,200 to 2,000 metres.
