The Secretary General of the PSOE in Lanzarote, adviser to the Cabildo and member of Congress, María Dolores Corujo, has denounced the “blatant opportunism” of the Cabildo President, Oswaldo Betancort, who, according to her, has sent a letter to the residents of Playa Honda to celebrate the start of works on the town’s underpass.

The Secretary General of the PSOE in Lanzarote, adviser to the Cabildo and member of Congress, María Dolores Corujo, has reminded us that “this project was planned, financed and put out to tender under socialist governments, with Ángel Víctor Torres as President of the Government of the Canary Islands and myself at the helm of the Lanzarote Cabildo. All the technical, administrative and budgetary work that made this project possible was carried out back then. The only thing Oswaldo Betancort has done is cause an unjustified delay in its execution, the completion of which has had to be repeatedly claimed by the socialist municipal government and Mayor Isidro Pérez, only to then appear in the photo and exploit it for his own marketing campaign funded with the money of all Lanzarote residents.”

Corujo expressed regret that, once again, “Betancort uses the institution as a personal propaganda agency, confusing public communication with political advertising.” In this sense, she stressed that “it is not about denying the importance of the work, but about telling the truth: the current president had absolutely nothing to do with its conception. The only thing he has contributed is new spending on propaganda to continue feeding his image, instead of focusing on resolving the serious problems facing the island.”

“Lanzarote is experiencing a housing emergency, suffers from continuous water cuts, is at the limit of its tourist capacity, and is going through a crisis in basic services. However, Oswaldo Betancort prefers to spend time and money sending himself congratulatory letters,” concluded Corujo.
