Weather Update: Clear Skies and Breezy Conditions in the Canary Islands

The hazy conditions have lifted from the skies above the Canary Islands, making way for a strong trade wind that has brought cloud cover and some rainfall. Although August has come to an end, summer continues for another three weeks. However, the change in weather is increasingly noticeable across the archipelago.

Current Weather Patterns

For the first few days of September, the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) forecasts stable temperatures with the wind continuing to dominate, blowing strongly from the northeast and bringing clouds and rain to the northern regions of the western islands. Here is Aemet’s forecast for the early days of the month in the Canary Islands:

Monday

Cloudy intervals with predominantly overcast skies in the northern mountainous areas, while southern regions will see less cloud cover. Light, scattered rain is expected, particularly in the northeastern highlands during the early hours, with the possibility of showers in Lanzarote. Temperatures are likely to remain relatively unchanged, with slight decreases in maximum temperatures in the interior of the western islands. Strong trade winds may result in very strong gusts on the southeast and northwest slopes of the higher islands.

Minimum and maximum temperatures in Santa Cruz de Tenerife will be 23 and 29 degrees; in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, they will be 23 and 26 degrees.

Tuesday

Generally, the weather will be mostly clear, with more cloud cover expected in the northern mountainous areas and intervals in the north and west of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, particularly in the early and late hours. Temperatures will remain stable. Strong trade winds will prevail on the southeast and northwest slopes, with breezes along the southwest coasts of the larger islands.

Minimum and maximum temperatures in Santa Cruz de Tenerife will be 23 and 29 degrees; in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, they will be 23 and 26 degrees.
