Thousands Attend the Romería Barquera in Honour of Our Lady of Mercedes

Thousands gathered with fervour and devotion for the embarkation of Our Lady of Mercedes de Roja on Sunday, 21st September, in the heart of El Médano. This event celebrated the eighteenth edition of the Romería Barquera in honour of the town’s patron saint.

Following the mass and traditional charity offering, the food from which will be distributed by Cáritas, the celebrations began with dancers from El Hierro. They paraded from the church along the main avenue, escorting the image until they reached the central beach, where the boatmen proceeded to embark the Virgin for a maritime procession across the bay.

The festive day concluded with a vibrant open-air dance featuring the orchestras Saoco, Wamampy, Maquinaria, Sabrosa, and Tropin.

Celebrations Continue

On Wednesday, 24th, the day dedicated to the patron saint, a solemn mass will take place at 20:30 hours, followed by a procession accompanied this year by the Chimiche pole dance.
