Lanzarote celebrated one of its most iconic events on Saturday with the Romería de Los Dolores, gathering thousands of pilgrims in Mancha Blanca. The day was marked by devotion and tradition, filled with fervour, unity, and respect, and has solidified its status as a reflection of the island’s collective identity.

Community Spirit Highlighted

Oswaldo Betancort, President of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, highlighted the civility and camaraderie of the participants. He especially thanked the people of Lanzarote and La Graciosa, the municipality of Tinajo, volunteers, and security forces for ensuring the smooth running of the event. “This celebration is a journey of faith that unites all the towns of the island and reminds us that our devotion to the Virgin of Los Dolores is part of our history and present,” he stated.

Preserving Traditions

María Jesús Tovar, Vice President of the Cabildo, emphasised the importance of keeping traditions alive, noting that the romería transcends religious significance, becoming an intergenerational gathering of culture, folklore, and community.

Traditional Offerings and Festive Celebrations

The day included the traditional offering to the Virgin, evoking the historic miracle of 1736, and culminated with the Baile del Romero, where parrandas and folklore groups from Gran Canaria and Lanzarote filled the square with music and joy.

Continued Festivities

The festivities will continue on Sunday and Monday with concerts by Vanesa Martín and Rosana Arbelo, as well as performances by Los Sabandeños and other groups, concluding the celebration with a firework display.
