The festivities unite the entire island around the patroness of Lanzarote, featuring a pilgrimage, concerts, and a craft fair that fill Mancha Blanca with colour and joy. Tinajo is once again transformed into the cultural and religious epicentre of Lanzarote with the celebration of the Festivities in honour of the Virgin of Los Dolores, the island’s patroness. The programme launch took place on Friday at the entrance of the Church of Los Dolores, attended by Tinajo’s Mayor, Jesús Machín, the Events Councillor, Jonathan Pérez Olivero, the Cabildo Councillor, Aroa Revelo, this year’s proclamers, Miguel Ángel Tejera, along with representatives from CD Tinajo and Parish Priest Francisco José García.
Invitation to Celebrate
The Mayor invited the people of Lanzarote, from the rest of the Canaries and mainland Spain, to enjoy festivities designed for all ages. He emphasised the importance of respecting traditional attire and maintaining civic behaviour during the events.
Event Highlights
The programme commenced on 1st September with sports championships in Mancha Blanca. Throughout the month, it included traditional workshops, hiking, the ‘Foam Party’, and competitions like the Tinajo You Trail and the Los Dolores Basketball Tournament. The Funfair opened its doors on 9th September with an inclusive day for children and youths with autism spectrum disorders. At 21:00, the proclamation of CD Tinajo’s 50th anniversary took place, featuring music from Ciro Corujo, Adrián Niz, and Alexis Lemes.
Humour and music have been central to the week’s events. On Thursday 11th, comedian Yanely Hernández and Guarapo Gomero provided humour, coinciding with ‘Children’s Day’ and a tribute to Joaquín Sabina. Friday 12th saw the Encuentro Folclórico Nanino Díaz Cutilla, featuring groups from across the Canaries, presented by Yeray Rodríguez.
On Saturday 13th, the traditional Offering to Our Lady of Los Dolores took place, followed by the Dance of the Rosemary. Sunday 14th featured a concert by singer Vanesa Martín that transitioned into a popular street party, animated by the orchestras Grupo Bomba and Banda Nueva.
Conclusion of Festivities
The festivities will conclude on Monday 15th September with a solemn Eucharist at 11:00, presided over by Monsignor José Mazuelos Pérez. This will be followed by the closure of the Craft Fair and two prominent concerts: at 18:30, ‘Ballad of Sabanda’ with Los Sabandeños, Olga Cerpa, and Mestisay, and at 21:00, Lanzarote-born singer Rosana Arbelo will present an emotional performance.
