The event will gather 650 runners from five countries and seven autonomous communities, establishing itself as a benchmark for trail running in the Canary Islands.

This Thursday morning, the ninth edition of the Tinajo Youtrail was presented in Mancha Blanca, an event that has become one of the highlights of the regional trail running calendar. Taking place this weekend, the event sold out its 650 available slots several days ago, reflecting its popularity among runners and enthusiasts.

Key Figures Attend the Presentation

Attendees at the presentation included Vianney Rodríguez, the sports councillor of the Tinajo Town Council; Juan Monzón, advisor for Physical Activity and Sports at the Cabildo of Lanzarote; and Beatriz Acuña, representing Tourism Lanzarote. They highlighted the growth and prestige achieved by the race over its nine editions.

Unique Landscapes and Community Support

The Tinajo Youtrail has earned a prominent place in the regional landscape due to the allure of its routes, which combine volcanoes, mountains, and sea, offering unique vistas that attract many participants year after year. Word of mouth among trail enthusiasts has been crucial in strengthening the event’s reputation.

International Participation

This edition will feature runners from five countries: Spain, Italy, the United Kingdom, Germany, and France. Nationally, the event will include athletes from twenty Spanish provinces, with significant representation from the Canary Islands, particularly Lanzarote, Gran Canaria, Tenerife, Fuerteventura, and La Palma.

Comments from Local Leaders

The Mayor of Tinajo, Jesús “Suso” Machín, remarked, “This event showcases our municipality, its landscapes, and its gastronomy, positively impacting the local economy. Each runner serves as an ambassador by sharing their experiences on social media. Furthermore, the Tinajo Youtrail acts as the perfect lead-up to the Fiestas de Los Dolores, so let’s first enjoy this weekend in the mountains of Tinajo.”

During the event, Vianney Rodríguez emphasised, “This race is special for our municipality and, I would say, for the island as well. To export what we experience every day in Tinajo is a source of pride, and I believe this year’s numbers reflect the event’s longstanding acceptance. Additionally, the 14 km distance is valid for our Mountain Running Cup, so we hope participants demonstrate their best level on Saturday.”

Juan Monzón congratulated the organisers “for their excellent work over the previous years, resulting in this year’s impressive figures.” He added, “This event is for everyone, with a day dedicated to hiking and children, and another for those who engage in trail running as their sport. The Insular Sports Service is committed to supporting events like this.” Finally, Monzón wished “good luck to all participants and hopes they enjoy the race.”

Event Schedule

The collection of race numbers will take place on Friday, 5th September, from 16:00 to 20:00 at the Plaza de San Roque in Tinajo. On the same day, at 17:00, the hiking event will commence, followed by the traditional Chinijos race at 18:00. On Saturday, 6th September, the 33 km race will start at 08:30, the 14 km at 10:30, and the 8 km at 11:00.
