Music, Devotion, and Folklore Grace Arrecife at the Traditional Offering to San Ginés

The capital of Lanzarote embraced tradition once more with the celebration of the parade and offer in honour of San Ginés, the patron saint of the city. From the early hours of the morning, the historic centre was filled with locals and visitors accompanying the procession, which began at Cuatro Esquinas and concluded at the Boca del Muelle Chico, where the offering took place before the statue of the saint.

A Parade Brimming with Music and Tradition

The procession featured the Agrupación Folclórica San Cristóbal (Gran Canaria), the Agrupación Folclórica Princesa Iraya (Tenerife), and the Coros y Danzas de Arrecife, who had already shone at the XXXI San Ginés Folklore Festival held the previous night in the José Ramírez Cerdá Park.

They were joined by the Galician group Aturuxo, a special guest that will also perform in the same park this Saturday from 20:00.

Authorities and Locals Attend the Offering

The event was attended by Yonathan de León, the mayor of Arrecife, Echedey Eugenio, the deputy mayor and councillor for festivities, municipal government members, island authorities, and numerous locals.

The ceremony was presided over by Juan Carlos Medina, the parish priest of San Ginés Bishop Church, who officiated the offering in an atmosphere marked by devotion, emotion, and respect for the city’s patron saint.

A Festive Gathering at Recova Municipal

Following the offering, the day continued at the Recova Municipal, where a gathering among the participating groups was held. During the event, acknowledgements were exchanged, and gratitude was expressed to the Arrecife Town Hall and the Cabildo of Lanzarote for their commitment to promoting folklore and popular traditions.

The Importance of Keeping Roots Alive

The mayor, Yonathan de León, and councillor for festivities, Echedey Eugenio, emphasised that keeping these traditions alive is essential for preserving the cultural identity of Arrecife and solidifying the patronal festivities as a benchmark across the island.

Both expressed their gratitude to the folklore groups and the public, who once again warmly embraced San Ginés in one of the most emblematic events of the festivities.
