The Cabildo of Fuerteventura, through the Department of Tourism led by Marlene Figueroa, has launched a new edition of the “Traditional Craft Workshops” developed in collaboration with the Department of Handicrafts, as part of an agreement between the Tourism Board and the Chamber of Commerce. The workshops will take place from September to December. Traditional craft workshops to preserve local customs

The sessions will be led by craftsman Ángel Nolasco Herrera and will focus on two specialisations:

Palma Weaving (Tiscamanita)

  • Start date: 8 September
  • Every Tuesday
  • Timings:
    • 16:00 to 18:00 (beginner level)
    • 18:00 to 20:00 (beginner level)

Traditional Hat Making (Tindaya)

  • Start date: 10 September
  • Every Thursday
  • Timings:
    • 16:00 to 18:00 (beginner level)
    • 18:00 to 20:00 (advanced level)

Each workshop will accommodate a maximum of 10 participants. Interested individuals should register in advance by calling 928861070 until capacity is reached.

The President of the Cabildo of Fuerteventura, Lola García, stated that “through these workshops, we continue to work towards strengthening the island’s identity, supporting artisans, ensuring their preservation, and highlighting the culture that defines us as a community.”

Furthermore, the Tourism Minister, Marlene Figueroa, emphasised that “craftsmanship is also a significant tourism resource, reflecting our history and authenticity. Initiatives like this allow visitors and residents to connect with the essence of Fuerteventura and the work of those who keep our traditions alive.”

These workshops are funded by the European Union through the Next Generation EU funds.

With this project, the insular Corporation reaffirms its commitment to the protection of local craftsmanship and the intergenerational transmission of traditional knowledge.
